Donald Trump, the former US president, expects to be arrested on Tuesd

Trump expects to be jailed Tuesday and has called for large protests.

His lawyer said law enforcement had not communicated and the former president's post was based on media sources.

Authorities are considering indicting Trump. Next week, according to reports.

He would be the first former US president indicted.

Before the 2016 presidential election, Mr. Trump's lawyer allegedly paid Stormy Daniels hush money.

The 76-year-old is under investigation in many cases, but he denies misconduct in all.

Even if indicted, Mr. Trump plans to run for president in 2024.

An indictment might boost his support, as two impeachment proceedings, the Russia probe, and the Mar-a-Lago raid did.

He may be criminally charged this week, but the details are unknown.

This is uncharted ground with the former president anticipating an arrest and calling for widespread protests.

Mr. Trump's faithful supporters attacked the US Capitol on 6 January 2021 after his repeated calls to protest, showing that a tense situation can soon turn violent.

Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday that "illegal leaks" from the Manhattan district attorney's office "suggest" his arrest on Tuesday.

The district solicitor hasn't commented. Law enforcement had not contacted Mr. Trump's lawyer, Susan Necheles.


She claimed that since this is a political prosecution, the district attorney's office has leaked everything to the public instead of talking with President Trump's attorneys.

The probe was called "an appalling abuse of power by a radical DA" by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.

He tweeted that he would investigate government money being used to intervene in elections "with politically motivated prosecutions".

Any indictment would force Mr. Trump's Republican Party opponents to decide whether to attack the former president while he is distracted or wait and hope.

History suggests the latter.
