US will deny PH security aid? Dela Rosa also suggests leaving Edca.
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa brushed off a new effort in the US Congress to stop security aid to Manila on Thursday. He also brought up the idea of the Philippines leaving its Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) with the US.
The bill has been filed again in the US House of Representatives. It wants to stop any help to the Philippine military and police until the government makes sure that people who break human rights are held accountable.
But dela Rosa said he might counter that with a resolution to pull the country out of the Edca, a defence agreement that lets troops from both countries do joint exercises and gives the US access to more military bases in the Philippines.
Okay, stop the help. We'll also stop Edca right here. We won't do any more exercises here. You just want to use us so you can attack Taiwan. And what kind of relationship is this? One way? "Only your way"? We can't do things like the Philippines, right?
The former head of the national police also said he doesn't feel the help the Philippines gets from the US.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila has told the Philippines that opening up more Edca sites with the US government will "seriously hurt Philippine national interests and threaten peace and stability in the region."
Aside from the tensions in the South China Sea between Taiwan and China, which is self-ruled, China could also take Taiwan back.
Last week, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that there will be four more Edca sites all over the Philippines. This is despite objections from local governments in the past, which he said have been taken care of.
